The Telco Crossroads

In the quest for growth, telecommunications companies are increasingly looking to diversify their revenue streams through B2B solutions. The B2B telecommunications market is projected to grow from $96.8 billion in 2024 to $293.8 billion by 2032, exhibiting a CAGR of 14.9% during this period. Telcos now stand at a critical crossroads: They can either harness this growing opportunity through robust CPaaS solutions or risk falling behind in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. With the demand for flexible, secure communication platforms rising, implementing a fully white-labeled CPaaS powered by AWS Cloud offers a transformative path forward.

At the heart of this transformation lies Comviva’s NGAGE, a comprehensive CPaaS solution that empowers telcos to deliver scalable, customizable, and branded offerings tailored to meet the diverse needs of enterprises across industries. By enabling telcos to unlock new revenue streams and streamline operations, NGAGE positions them to not only maximize B2B monetization but also maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace.

This blog explores how implementing a CPaaS solution like NGAGE can help telcos maximize B2B monetization, streamline operations, and maintain a competitive edge.

Telco Opportunity: The Growing CPaaS Market

As enterprises pivot towards cloud-based solutions and prioritize tailored engagement applications, the Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) market continues to expand rapidly. Expected to reach a valuation of $28 billion by 2024 and $58 billion by 2028, the CPaaS market showcases an impressive projected growth of 102% over the forecast period from 2024 to 2028. This surge underscores a critical opportunity for telecommunications providers to serve a broader set of enterprise needs by offering flexible, scalable, and highly customizable solutions that enhance business agility and drive revenue growth.

Telco Challenges: Key Hurdles to Adoption

Despite the promising landscape, telcos face distinct challenges that can impact their ability to rapidly implement and maximize the value of CPaaS for enterprise clients. Addressing these barriers can accelerate time to market. One significant hurdle is infrastructure readiness, as telcos face substantial capital expenditure (Capex) investments that often act as barriers to the rapid adoption of new technologies and solutions. Additionally, complex stakeholder approvals and unclear workflows cause bottlenecks, leading to delays in approvals. Stringent security reviews also prolong go-live timelines, although efficient frameworks for compliance can reduce these delays. Limited access to critical infrastructure hampers continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) implementation and operational support, further impeding progress. Moreover, reluctance to embrace new technologies such as GenAI, advanced analytics, and other digital innovations limits telcos’ competitive edge and ability to stay ahead of the curve.

Why NGAGE?

NGAGE is an advanced, white-labelled, omni-channel CPaaS solution designed specifically for telcos, enabling them to take full ownership of their customer relationships. It offers an adaptable, high-performance platform that meets the complex requirements of large-scale enterprise deployments. NGAGE’s full OpEx model with flexible AWS pricing allows for scalable and flexible spending, reducing upfront costs and enabling sustainable growth. Additionally, leveraging AWS’s global infrastructure, telcos can deploy the platform worldwide in hours, providing a faster time to market and helping them capture new business opportunities and establish a strong presence in the B2B space.

The Solution: Unlocking B2B Potential with NGAGE on AWS-Powered CPaaS

Beyond revenue growth, NGAGE’s comprehensive, white-labelled solution allows telcos to protect their market share, create consistent branding, and ensure data security across regions. With AWS Cloud’s infrastructure supporting NGAGE’s advanced features, telcos are well-positioned to deliver high value, differentiated services and maintain exclusive control over their enterprise customer relationships.

NGAGE platform architecture can be divided into control and application planes. Onboarding services along with application deployment pipeline (single click deployment) reside in control plane whereas application plane consists of micro-services responsible for NGAGE functionality.

The following diagram illustrates the microservices-based tenant onboarding design with service orchestration that run in the NGAGE control plane

  1. The Registration microservice handles the tenant onboarding workflow which is triggered from internal and self-service users (telco admins)
  2. The Tenant management service creates the unique tenant id for the new tenant, and stores the tenant-specific details (tenant id, organization data, tier information, channel settings e.g. TPS and environment details) in Amazon RDS (MySQL)
  3. The User management service is responsible for creating the tenant admin user in a centralized identity provider (IdP) e.g. creating realm in Keycloak service.
  4. The tenant provisioning service owns responsibility for creating tenant-specific infrastructure that might be needed (based on the product tier). It leverages an infrastructure-as-code (IaC) e.g. Terraform technology to maintain the automated infrastructure deployment. During onboarding flow, it uses a CI/CD pipeline to execute these scripts to create infrastructure needed for the new tenant, deploys the relevant microservice artifacts, and performs any additional configuration needed to get the tenant up and running.

At NGAGE, we recognize the diverse deployment needs of our customers, ranging from cloud-based environments to on-premises infrastructures. To address these varying requirements, we have adopted flexibility as a key design principle, enabling our platform to seamlessly adapt to different deployment targets e.g. Kubernetes based micro-services hosted on Amazon EKS, opensource compatible database engine MySQL on Amazon RDS, Terraform for IaC and Keycloak for IdP.

The NGAGE application plane consists of microservices that deliver omni-channel messaging services like SMS, Voice, WhatsApp, Email, and BO and ensure high availability, security, and observability across multiple Availability Zones (AZs). It delivers near-real-time reporting, seamless multi-time zone support, and intelligent auto-scaling based on traffic volumes and throughput. The following diagram illustrates the microservices-based messaging platform design for NGAGE:

Key components:

  1. Application services: Central to the platform design is the use of Amazon EKS for managing Kubernetes based containerized applications, ensuring scalability and automation. The platform supports UI for multiple messaging channels and common services like message processors, dispatchers, and channel proxies, all within a Amazon VPC with public and private subnets for with network segmentation, and Auto Scaling groups for dynamic resource management
  2. Data & storage: Amazon RDS MySQL (Multi-AZ) provides a highly available relational database, while Amazon OpenSearch Service enables advanced search and analytics on customer data records (CDR data).
  3. Messaging & central integration layer: Amazon MSK offers a managed Apache Kafka service for secure, scalable message streaming between various components/microservices within NGAGE platform.
  4. Security and observability: Observability is ensured through SigNoz for monitoring and tracing including Open Telemetry data collection and application performance analysis, and AWS Security Hub for centralized security alerts.
